This stunning vase is a multicoloured piece of art pottery, handmade and signed by Santos. Standing at 275mm in height and approximately 100mm in width, it is made of hand-blown glass in a contemporary style. The vase, produced in Australia, weighs 2.280kg and bears the brand name Santos. I bought this vase some years ago simply because I appreciated the craftsmanship and Various glassblowing. Skills taken to produce such a stunning heavy work of art. I didn't know who J. Santos was at the time. In between I have researched J. Santos, from his start in his native Portugal through Germany and on to Australia.

I haven't seen another J. Santos piece just signed Santos without the J. The date is not always on every piece. Nor have I seen another vase by him that is close in style and form to my one. However many of the techniques in vase shown are in other pieces by J.

Leading me to conclude this is very likely 1 off studio experimental piece. Quite a thing to apply a serpent around the vase let alone throwing a 2.3 kg lump of glass about.

My conclusion is it was made by J. Santos in Australia sometime 80/90s? Part of my reticence to list this vase before, is how to price something with nothing directly to compare too. Certainly their are other Santos pieces as reference, but nothing quite the same or a model that was blown in quantities. Whilst I want a sale I don't want to insult buyers any more than I want to shoot myself in the foot. So I will price as I judge and we shall see how the market reacts.
