Kosta glasbruk was founded in 1741 and is one of the world's oldest, still operating glass works. The name Kosta was derived using the first letters from the names of the two founders of the glass works: Anders Koskull and Georg Bogislaus Staël von Holstein. It is thought that among the initial workers, there were quite a few glassblowers from Thuringia which brought their knowledge and experience with them.
