Antique Victorian Uranium Glass Epergne - Stourbridge - c. 1890 - UV Reactive Centrepiece A striking and elegant Victorian uranium glass epergne, dating to around c. This impressive Stourbridge glass epergne consists of a large central trumpet and three smaller side trumpets mounted within the original metal holder, all set into a matching glass base bowl. The trumpets are hand blown art glass with elegant vertical ribbing, ruffled crimped rims and attractive green rigaree trailing applied around the bodies.
The glass has a beautiful opalescent colour, shading from milky white through to green. Under 395nm UV light the glass glows, confirming the presence of uranium typical of Victorian uranium glass. Epergnes like this were popular Victorian table centrepieces, used to display flowers and create elaborate dining table decorations. Today they are highly sought after by collectors of uranium glass, vaseline glass and Stourbridge art glass.
Height of tallest trumpet: approx 55 cm (22 inches). Height of three side trumpets: approx 38 cm (15 inches). Diameter of base bowl: approx 25 cm (10 inches) Condition Considering its age of around 125 years, the epergne is in very good antique condition. The glass remains bright and attractive. It would benefit from a gentle clean and there are a few black marks around the tops of the trumpets, as shown in the photographs.
There is also what appears to be an internal crack or line in the base bowl, which is clearly shown in the photos and has been reflected in the price. Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description. This is a wonderful and decorative example of Victorian Stourbridge uranium glass, and a stunning display piece that looks particularly beautiful under UV light. Perfect for collectors of uranium glass, vaseline glass, Stourbridge glass, Victorian art glass and antique epergnes.
