Old Art Nouveau Metal Overlaid Bottle Vase. The vase of some age evident from the wear on the beige green cloth attached to the underside, elaborately overlaid with an art nouveau floral design with what appears to be a cats eye cabochon-cut (smooth, domed) stone in the middle of the central flower. The "cat's eye effect, " is a single, sharp band of light that moves across the surface of a cabochon-cut (smooth, domed) stone known as chatoyancy. Art Nouveau ("New Art") was a dynamic, international decorative style emphasising organic forms, flowing "whiplash" curves, and nature-inspired motifs (plants, flowers, insects) to create a modern, unified art for everyday life.
