The glass has a wonderful matt, amber-gold base colour that shimmers with a breathtaking iridescent sheen in hues of silver, magenta, and purple across the body. The inner edge of the rim displays a lovely textured golden iridescence. Inspired by the iridescent effects found on ancient Roman glass excavated in Myra, Turkey, WMF perfected a technique in the 1930s to replicate this stunning effect.
This involved staining the glass with a yellow-orange hue and then firing it with silver and metal oxides to create the vibrant, metallic colours you see here. Diameter (rim opening): 4.5 inches. This vase is in Excellent condition with very little surface wear. Please examine the photographs carefully for a detailed view of its condition. The base features a polished pontil and has some light wear consistent with its age. This decorative Myra glass vase would make a superb addition to any art glass collection. Its beautiful form and stunning iridescence are truly eye-catching.
Don't miss the opportunity to own this exquisite piece of WMF Myra glass! Please note: The iridescence of the glass is notoriously difficult to capture accurately in photographs, and the true beauty and depth of colour must be seen to be fully appreciated. I have deliberately pictured the vase in different lighting conditions to demonstrate the variance in different colours it can produce.
