Michael Shearer's unique organic style embodies simplicity and elegance utilizing the illuminant, reflective, and refractive qualities of glass. His art glass has been collected internationally since he first began working with this translucent molten substance and opened his first studio in Hermosa Beach, CA in 1976. After meeting his wife Sandra, they moved the studio to Laguna Niguel, CA where he showed his work at the Pageant of the Masters Art Show and the Museum of Art in Laguna Beach among other galleries. In 1990, they moved their studio, along with their children to Miranda, CA among the giant redwoods. The ocean and the redwoods are an inspiration that keeps Michael encouraged to play with the molten transparent liquid.
At the Spirit Art Glass studio in the heart of the Redwoods, Michael Shearer creates each new piece of art glass individually using the off-hand or free blown method. It is cooked until melted and molten where he is able to begin the process of gathering the glass on the end of the six foot long stainless steel blow pipe where he manipulates the orange hot liquid into the distinctive layered art glass pieces he is known for creating.
